Helen Crawfurd

Pictured is an election leaflet for Helen Crawfurd, who stood unsuccessfully as Communist candidate for Glasgow Govan Ward in November 1921.

Helen Crawfurd was a left-wing political activist, suffragette and peace campaigner — declaring herself 'an active supporter of any movement that has attacked Capitalism'.

She helped establish the Glasgow Women's Housing Association which was involved in the city's rent strikes during the First World War.

Crawfurd left the Independent Labour Party after meeting Lenin in Moscow in 1920.
